Once, years ago, I looked at a house in a gardening magazine and said to my best friend, “That’s it! That’s where I want to live!” And she looked and laughed and said, “It’s a tool shed!” But let me explain! It was a little wooden house, weathered blue-green, right in the middle of a garden of blue and violet flowers and very tall grass and full-greening trees… so I suppose that where the house is matters to me more than how it is.
But I can’t live without light. I cannot. It makes my body hurt.
